Stipend, housing and office space
The current stipend for Deans is £35,500 per annum. The Deanery is a 6-bedroom detached property in Jesmond, a vibrant and established suburb of Newcastle which is a 20 minute walk to the Cathedral. The Deanery has a modest garden and garage space. The Dean’s office is located within the Cathedral site.
Induction and development
A transition coach will be available to support the next Dean as s/he takes up this new ministry, and a residential for newly appointed Deans will take place between 4 – 16 November 2018. The new Dean will also be invited to attend safeguarding training alongside a series of other induction meetings to help them begin their new role.
Eligibility and pre-appointment enquiries
Applicants should have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom. The appointed candidate will need to complete an Enhanced DBS check, and a pre-appointment medical and any offer of appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of these enquiries.

Shortlisting and interviews
The appointment panel (chaired by Sir Philip Mawer at the invitation of the Archbishop of York) will meet to shortlist applications on 20 April, and interviews will be held on 31 May and 1 June. Shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to meet with people from the Cathedral community on the day prior to their interview (i.e. on 30 or 31 May).
