Dean of St Edmundsbury
We are looking to appoint an imaginative and inspiring priest who will lead the Cathedral community in our vision to be a beacon of faith, hope and love in Suffolk, and who will strengthen the Cathedral as the seat of the Bishop’s ministry. A downloadable briefing pack provides further information about this vacancy.
From the Bishop
"For the glory of God, our new Dean will be sparky, holy and fun! She or he will share with the Bishops in leading the Diocese in God’s mission for the county, establishing good and positive relationships across church, civic and local life, and working collaboratively with staff and volunteers at the Cathedral and the Diocese.
The Bishop of Dunwich and I are based in Ipswich, while the Cathedral, the seat of episcopal mission and ministry, is in Bury St Edmunds, nearly 30 miles away. The new Dean will work closely with us to overcome the geographical and structural challenges. Our Dean will need to share our commitment wholeheartedly to the Diocesan Vision and Strategy “Growing in God” and to the Cathedral’s particular expression of that.
We look forward to a Dean who will help the Cathedral move forward, liturgically, musically and in outreach to the wider population and in engaging with the social needs in Bury St Edmunds and the county. The new Dean will be capable of engaging with the business aspects of the Cathedral, and not afraid of making tough decisions.
Above all, the new Dean will be someone who communicates in themselves, their actions and their words, their preaching and teaching, and their passions and commitments the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ."
